Lesson Plan
Objective:
To understand the basics of cellular respiration, the difference between aerobic and anaerobic respiration, and how cellular respiration is related to photosynthesis.
Materials:
- PowerPoint
- candles
- lighter
- Lab questions handout
- 2 fly swatters
- Exit Slip Questions page
Timing:
-10 minutes on the PowerPoint
- 5 minutes on the notes segment at the end of the PowerPoint
-10 minutes on the lab in groups
- 5 minutes on explaining the lab and reviewing the questions
- 10 minutes on fly swatter game
- 5 minutes exit slip questions page
Segments:
-Powerpoint is where we will teach them about cellular respiration.
-The notes segment is the last slide of the powerpoint which is a review of key information and terms.
-The lab will have candles that represent cellular respiration and the students will answer a lab sheet that asks them to assign each part of the burning candle a piece in cellular respiration.
-the fly swatter game is a game where all the key terms are on the board and 2 kids walk up to it with a fly swatter. We will read a definition, and they will try to pick the word first by swatting it.
- The exit slip will just be a review of what they learned.
Team roles:
Tony - explain the basics of cellular respiration on the powerpoint
Zach - explain the difference between aerobic and anaerobic respiration
Adam - explain how cellular respiration relates to photosynthesis
Chris - Do the notes segment
All of us will help with the rest.
We will know if they learned stuff by seeing how they do in the fly swatter game and the exit slip questions.
